As things have been set up, after getting confirmation of the ticket, IRCTC would send customers a message telling them the seat and berth number and there would then be no need for the ticket to take things from there, because that message would suffice for the purpose.

Tickets are however considered important because their absence could cause problems during the journey. Therefore, passengers would be required to get the ticket from railway stations.

Sources said railway authorities were set to take a step forward in the e-ticket business. Under this new facility, passengers will have to book their tickets with IRCTC.

In return, they would get information related to their compartment and berth in the train through an SMS. And they would get their tickets at the railway station from where they would undertake their journey. The scheme would enable the traveler to book his ticket in advance.
